We had an awesome time in the art room during the first week of school. I met all the Roberts students within 6 days, which was a rush, but also incredibly refreshing. My students are bright and eager and i can't wait to see what they are capable of. The first 6 days of school were basically 6 first days for me, as each day introduced me to new classes. After introductions, Art Room Essential Agreements, and trying to get the kiddos comfortable with the new art teacher, we practiced our Mona Lisa (ask your kids about it). I concluded with having the students decorate their desk name plates, which I imagine I'll be using for a while (800+ kids!!!).
Today, students began working on drawings that represent or symbolize their experiences, special moments or favorite places at Roberts Elementary. Each year the PTO puts out a student directory, in which we include some of the best drawings from each grade. It's really fun watching your kids come up with creative ways to demonstrate what it means to be a student at Roberts. Stay tuned for more news and pictures in the coming weeks. Also, check out the Art Room Wish List on another blog entry. Thanks for stopping by!
